Common Questions

Good questions
deserve good answers.

No rehearsed answers. No fine print. If something is not covered here, reach out directly and I will respond within one business day.

Before the first
session.

Reach out through the contact page or email therapy@mykecooper.com. I will follow up within one business day to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
A brief call — usually 15 minutes — to talk about what is going on, answer your questions, and see if working together makes sense. If you already know you are ready to start, we can skip the consultation and go straight to booking a first session.
We talk. I ask questions about what brought you in, your history, and what you are hoping to get out of this. You do not need to have it figured out — that is what we are there for.
No. You can reach out directly without a referral from a doctor or anyone else.
Typically within one to two weeks of our initial consultation, depending on availability. Reach out and we will find something that works.

The practical
details.

4751 Best Road, Suite 400R, Atlanta, GA 30337. In-person sessions are by appointment only.
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available for clients in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Colorado, and Nevada. All you need is a private space and a stable internet connection.
I ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Life happens — if something comes up, just reach out as soon as you can. The sooner I know, the better I can take care of both of us.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes.

What therapy
actually looks like.

Direct, grounded, and focused on what is actually going on beneath the surface. I am not going to just let you vent indefinitely — I am going to help you understand patterns, make sense of what you are carrying, and figure out what to do with it.
Anxiety, depression, relationship patterns, life transitions, anger, addiction and recovery, identity, grief, and more. If you are not sure whether what you are dealing with is something I work with, just ask.
Most clients start weekly. Consistency matters early on — it builds the foundation for the work. Over time, the frequency can shift based on where you are.
It depends on what you bring in and what you want to get out of it. Some people come for a focused stretch of a few months. Others work through bigger things over a longer period. We figure that out together.
Sometimes — but not really. I do not do worksheets. Life becomes the homework. As we work together you start to notice things differently, respond differently, carry yourself differently. The living is the work.

The things worth
knowing upfront.

Say so. The fit between a therapist and client genuinely matters — it is one of the strongest predictors of whether therapy works. If something is not clicking, I would rather you tell me so we can address it or I can help you find someone who is a better match.
Yes. Everything shared in session is confidential. There are a small number of legal exceptions — situations involving imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or mandatory reporting requirements — which I explain clearly at the start of our work together.
Completely. A lot of the people I work with are coming in for the first time. You do not need to know how this works or what to say. We figure it out together from wherever you are starting.
That is a reasonable place to be. The consultation is free and there is no commitment attached to it. Come in with your questions and skepticism intact — that is fine. The only way to know is to see what it actually feels like.

A note on
cost.

Full details on session fees, insurance, and sliding scale options are on the Fees & Insurance page. If cost is a concern, bring it up — it is a reasonable thing to talk about.
Yes. See the Fees & Insurance page for current information on panels accepted and out-of-network options.
